Sunday deadline for Ohio’s Vax-2-School scholarship drawings

Sunday is the deadline to apply for the first Ohio Vax-2-School scholarship drawing. The program offers Ohio students a chance to win college scholarships if they have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

The graphics are for Ohioans ages 5 to 25 who have been vaccinated against the virus. Winners can receive thousands of dollars in college scholarship money.

There are 150 scholarships worth $10,000 and five award scholarships worth $100,000. Scholarships can be used at Ohio universities and colleges and trade schools.

To enter, you must meet the following deadlines:

  • Sunday, November 21, 11:59 PM – Eligible for all raffles.
  • Sunday, November 28, 11:59 p.m. – Eligible for the second draw (75 winners, $10,000) and grand prize draw.
  • Wednesday, December 1, 11:59 p.m. – Eligible for the Grand Prize Draw.

One infectious disease specialist said it’s hard to quantify how much incentive programs move the needle in vaccines, but anything that generates buzz around a vaccine is a good thing.

“Children can also pass the virus on to people who have not yet been vaccinated,” Dr. Joseph Gastaldo, MD, medical director of infectious diseases at Ohio Health said. They can pass the virus on to older adults where vaccines do not work well. And also for those with weakened immune systems where vaccines don’t work well. When we talk about herd immunity, when we talk about community immunity, children are part of that community.”
