Students entering university in 2023 invited to apply for Horatio Alger scholarships

MontrealAnd December 1, 2021 / CNW Telbec / – Horatio Association of Algeria CanadaToday, the largest provider of need-based scholarships in the country, announced the opening of the undergraduate scholarship application process. Students currently in Grade 11 who will begin their undergraduate studies in Fall 2023 are invited to submit their applications today.

A total of 170 scholarships will be awarded as needed:

  • 160 Horatio Alger Canadian Scholarships, valued at 5000 dollars each, for high school students in each province and territory with plans to attend college, and;

  • 10 Horatio Alger National Entrepreneurship Scholarship, worth $10,000 All, for nationally outstanding applicants who intend to pursue a business-related degree or have expressed their commitment to pursuing an entrepreneurial career.

Getting students to advance while in grade 11 is a change that is being implemented this year. Previously, Horatio Alger Scholarships are awarded to students in the final year of high school. The program has been restructured in an effort to guide students through the post-secondary decision-making process and provide them with access to the Society’s resources early in their educational journeys.

The Horatio Alger Scholarships are awarded to deserving students who are financially in need and who have overcome significant adversity while demonstrating strength of character, strong academics, a commitment to pursuing higher education as well as a desire to contribute to society. Funds can be used for undergraduate studies. There are separate scholarship programs for TVET studies and for Indigenous students. Since 2012, $11.4 million in scholarships awarded to 1,428 deserving young Canadians.

By reaching students a year in advance, scholars will participate in the association’s Undergraduate Success Program, an offer that provides undergraduate application submission, selection support, financial aid package review, financial literacy classes, productivity courses, time management, and more. Beneficiaries will also have access to mental and physical health resources, emergency funding for housing or food insecurity emergencies and networking opportunities with Horatio Alger members and graduate scholars with similar life experiences.
