Seek Aadhaar authentication of students availing scholarships, UGC tells HEIs

Chennai:

Aadhaar authentication means the process by which the Aadhaar number along with the demographic or biometric information of the holder of the Aadhaar number is submitted to the Central Identity Data Repository (CIDR) for verification and such repository verifies its authenticity or otherwise, on the basis of the information provided with it.

Four major centrally sponsored scholarships are available including the Indira Gandhi PG Single Girl Scholarship, PG Scholarship for Undergraduate Candidates, Ishan Uday Special Scheme for North East and PG Scholarship for Professional Courses for SC/ST Candidates.

As registration for scholarship applications will start from November 30, UGC, in its notice, said the National Scholarship Portal is a single website for students to apply for scholarships under various schemes.

The authority asked all higher education institutions to appoint a contract official, and said institutions should check student application on the portal.

Rajneesh Jain, Secretary of the UGC, in his circular to all Vice Chancellors and Principals, indicated that if demographic validation was not done by the nodal officers, students would be deprived of the scholarship.

“In light of this, it is requested to ensure that Contract Officers appointed by your organization complete their Aadhaar Authentication as soon as possible,” he said, adding, “Contract Officers can do so by logging into the portal and clicking on “Update Profile” on the tab “Administration”.
