Report details decades of sexual harassment at Hebrew Union College

A report by the Hebrew Union College's Jewish Institute of Religion uncovered decades of accusations of sexual harassment across all four campuses of the college.

A report released in early November by Hebrew Union College’s Jewish Institute of Religion uncovered decades of accusations of sexual harassment as well as other forms of misconduct across all four campuses of the college.

The University of Cincinnati campus, located in CUF, a neighborhood comprising Clifton Heights, University Heights, and Fairview, is described in the report “as having a well-established culture of nepotism and politics.”

The report, which was first published on the HUC-JIR website on November 9, was conducted independently by Morgan Lewis, a law firm located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Accusations of sexual misconduct and discrimination date back to the 1970s

According to the report, a special committee of the HUC-JIR Board of Governors reached out to Morgan Lewis in April after several reports of sexual misconduct and other forms of discrimination spread on social media following the death of Dr. Michael Cook, a well-known HUC-JIR professor on the Cincinnati campus. The charges were brought against Cook and other faculty members at HUC-JIR.
