The Southern Shrimp Consortium has announced a new scholarship program aimed at lowering tuition costs for students with ties to the commercial shrimp industry.
In 2022, the SSA will award post-secondary education scholarships to two students in each of the eight states in which the shrimp industry operates in the Southeast (Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina). The sixteen recipients will receive up to $1,000 in their chosen field of study at any post-secondary institution, including trade and vocational schools.
The application can be found online at https://www.shrimpalliance.com/issues/industry-enhancement-efforts/scholarship/
The due date is no later than March 1, 2022. A selection committee made up of SSA Board members will announce the winners in May 2022. Based on the acceptance letter, SSA will issue payments to students in August 2022. Winners will also receive a supplementary SSA membership for one year.
