Leroy Allen Wright, of Fredonia, New York, died Wednesday morning, November 17, 2021, in a home surrounded by family, after a two-year battle with the disease.
Leroy was a member of St. Anthony’s Church in Fredonia, New York. He was with Niagara Mohawk in 1977 and retired from NRG (formerly Niagara Mohawk) in 2011.
Leroy served proudly in the United States Navy from 1969 until his honorable discharge in 1971 and served in the United States Naval Reserve for four years thereafter. He and his wife, Sally Jo, spent their retirement traveling in an RV to many places and enjoyed being snowbirds in Florida.
One of Leroy’s greatest feelings was the 1967 red Chevelle SS. He enjoyed drag racing, restoring, maintaining, and showing off. In his spare time, he volunteers at Muscle Car City in Punta Gorda, Florida, and also enjoys meeting friends at Chautacoa County Club, Beaver Club, American Legion, Post 59, and rallies with teammates. He was part of the 67th Reunion Committee and Scholarship Fund. Leroy was a friend to everyone he met and his smile was contagious.
LeRoy is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sally Jo Wright of Fredonia, New York, and also survived by his three loving children: Lee Ann (Brian) Mae of Brockway, Pennsylvania, Kristi (Jason) Pinker of Monclova, Ohio, and Jason ( Alyssa Wright is from Hilliard, Ohio. He absolutely loved his seven grandchildren: Nathan, Gianna May, Andrew, Braden, Jackson Pinker, Tyler and Graham Wright. Also surviving were his brothers: Richard (Gloria) Wright of Warren, Pennsylvania, and Roger (Mary) Wright of Fredonia, New York; And many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Leroy H. Wright and Mary E. Wright of Fredonia, New York, Leroy’s death was preceded by his grandson Edward B. May from Brockway, Pennsylvania; and his brother, Randy Wright from Westfield, New York
In accordance with the family’s wishes, there will be a show on Sunday, November 21, 2021, from 4-7 p.m., at FANTAUZZI FUNERAL HOME, 82 East; Main St., Fredonia, NY His funeral will be Monday, November 22, 2021 burial mass for Christians at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Fredonia, New York with Reverend Joseph Walter. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the mass.
Burial will be at Saint Joseph Cemetery in Sheridan, New York
