MANGALURU: Chartered Accountant and Philanthropist Nandagopal Shinui has been unanimously elected President of the Konkani Global Centre, Mangaluru, for the term from 2021 to 2024.
Also, the following other officials on Thursday took charge of the Board of Trustees of Konkani Bhas Ani Sanskriti Prathistan, popularly known as World Konkani Center, Kudpi Jagadish Shenoy (Vice Chair), Gilbert D’Souza (Vice Chair), Dr. Kiran Budkuley (Vice Chair), BR Bhat (Treasurer), Giridhar Kamath (Secretary), Sneha V. Shenoy (Joint Secretary) and Dr. Kasturi Mohan Pai, KB Kharvi, Muralidhar V. Prabhu, U. Shakuntala R. Kini, Ramesh Pai Kananur, Melvyn Eugine Rodrigues and D elected .Ramesh Naik, Narayan Naik, C. Vathika Kamath and Venkatesh Prabhu as guardians. They were elected after the annual general meeting of Pakistan here on Thursday.
Given the female service of founder and outgoing President Basti Vaman Shinui, the Board of Trustees asked him to continue to be a guiding resource as Honorary Co-Chair of Prabhistan. The Board also thanked Chairman Emeritus RV Deshapande and Chairman Dr. P. Dayananda Pai and asked them to continue to honor their positions.
Sixteen newly elected trustees joined the Board of Directors consisting of notable beneficiary trustees such as P Sathish Pai, TV Mohandas Pai, Dr Ranjan Pai, KV Kamath, Grace Pinto, Ramadas Kamath U, Pradeep G Pai, Giselle D Mehta, William D’Souza, Gokulnath Prabhu, Ulas Kamath, Ronald Colako et al.
Founded in 1996 by Basti Vaman Shenoy, Prathistan established the Global Konkani Center in 2009. Since then it has succeeded in bringing together Konkani speaking people belonging to different castes and religions under one umbrella to preserve the Konkani language and culture.
Under his vision, Mohandas Pai has initiated several programs to empower the Konkani community, one of which is the Vishwa Konkani Scholarship Program which has awarded more than 26,000 scholarships in the last 10 years amounting to over Rs 28 crore under the leadership of Ramadas Kamath U. The Konkani Global Center has taken many initiatives Under his Amrut Konkani programme, contributing to the growth of the Konkani language, culture and community this year as the seventy-fifth year of India’s independence.
